Nemirović Dančenka Street, tucked into the Banovo Brdo part of Čukarica, honors the Nemirovich-Danchenko name from Russian culture - most likely Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, the co-founder (with Stanislavski) of the Moscow Art Theatre, one of the most influential figures in world theatre. You can tell from the neighbors: the street sits right alongside Gogoljeva, Dostojevskog, and Turgenjevljeva — a little pocket of Belgrade streets named after giants of Russian literature and culture, none of whom ever set foot here. It's part of a broader Belgrade habit of naming streets after great Russians as a gesture of cultural kinship - reflecting both Serbia's historic closeness to Russia and the large White Russian émigré community that helped rebuild Belgrade after 1920. It's worth mentioning that the street could possibly be named after Vasily Nemirovich-Danchenko, Vladimir's older brother, who actually had a real personal stake in Serbia.
